Nigerian Government Keeps Forgetting Enyimba

It is unfortunate and disheartening that the federal government honoured 60 sports personalities and Teams on the 16th of October 2020

and they overlooked that Legendary Enyimba team of 2003 & 2004.

I wrote an article some weeks back highlighting how important it is to honour that Enyimba team because if we could remember the were not honoured by the federal government then led by former President Olusegun Obasanjo (who we were told only gave the team a hand shake) .

Let me say it again, this is a team that broke a 38 years old jinx, three different teams (Rangers FC 1975, Shooting Stars Sports Club 1984 & 1996, Iwuanyawu Nationale 1988) All tried previously but were not successful until the moment Former Governor (now senator) Orji Uzor Kalu was able to galvanize a relatively struggling Enyimba team to rise to prominence and conquered Nigeria and Africa within 4 years.

And despite all these achievements the federal government did not deem it necessary to honour at least a member of that team.

Well I think Enyimba FC should actually press for this because every good work deserves to be honored.

Enyimba FC won the CAF Champions league in 2003 defeating Ismaily SC of Egypt 2-1 on aggregate 2-0 in Aba Nigeria and 0-1 in Ismaili Egypt and in 2004 defeated Etoile Sportive Du Sahel of Tunisia 5-3 on penalties after a 1-2 loss in Sousse Tunisia and a 2-1 win in Abuja Nigeria
